Mortellus's new book called "Do I have to wear black?" is an excellent book for all pagans about dying as a pagan person. Mortellus is a mortician, so we learn about caring for the body after death, all the ways someone can be buried or cremated. Types of funerals for all kinds of pagans and mourning rituals. What a fantastic resource for me as a Pagan Minister, but also for anyone facing a dying pagan person or having to talk to a funeral home about their wishes. It was delightful to find that the Executive Director of Cherry Hill, Holli Emore and my own faculty mentor in the Pagan Ministry program, Wes Isley, contributed to this volume.
I appreciated the discussion about the afterlife and the various pagan stories/myths that would appropriate for various kinds of deaths in this book. I do find that those who are not clairvoyant do seem to have the most problem with an afterlife or reincarnation as a real experience and not a metaphorical way to see the natural cycles of planet Earth. However, I have always been fascinated with all the various ideas about the afterlife in religions and in cultures. Surely, this has been on the minds of humans forever.
From my experience as a clairvoyant, people who leave the body become full of love, which I believe they are in the body, but it's harder to feel and understand. Of all the people I have read who have asked about relatives who have left the body, I've never seen one person not filled with love. I know there are beings that help people work out what their intention is for their next lifetime. I know that everyone has had multiple lifetimes. I do believe that if the brain could remember all that information, it would explode. However, none of this matters to the excellent resource book Mortellus has given us and I will absolutely use it in my ministry and in my personal life.
